SJOS HIGHLIGHTS

The virtual SJOS AGM for 2020 was a very successful “zoom event”. Thank you to all those who joined us on Wednesday 2 December and if anyone would like a copy of the AGM Report, please email [email protected]. Many thanks to Loreto Mandeville Hall and De La Salle College for their wonderful donations of food and toys, and to StreetSmart for their grant to the SJOS Food Store, plus their donation of towels and sheets. The ability to support those in need during the Christmas Period is made so much easier with this generosity.

CHRISTMAS WISHES TO ALL FROM THE SJOS TEAM

May joy be your gift for Christmas and may Peace, Hope
and Love be your treasures in the New Year.

WONDERFUL DONATIONS TO SJOS:

At this time of year, it is truly wonderful to be the recipient of so much generosity. Not only have our amazing Major Donors given their end of year pledges, but the colleges around us have inspired their families to unleash their generosity. We received a wonder array of food stuffs from Loreto Mandeville Hall, who prior to their Christmas Food Drive asked about the needs of the SJOS Food Store. Thus, the donations we received included some of the items that are so expensive to purchase. Small jars of coffee and honey, soups, cereals, various biscuits and Christmas treats were all amongst the goods donated. We also received an anonymous donation and the canned foods supplied will be much appreciated by our visitors to the Food Store. Even though schools have been closed during the COVID Lockdown and lots of teaching from home has been happening, it was great to see the families from De La Salle College join in with the spirit of Christmas. Bags and bags of toys and gifts arrived from the school, and those not used in the SJOS Christmas Hampers were delivered onto Uniting Care Prahran who will make sure the toys are available for those families unable to financially support their children’s Christmas gift requests. Thank you to all our generous donors.

SJOS GARDEN CLUB:

The volunteers at the SJOS Garden have had a couple of successes of late. The watering conditions had been challenging and recently they were able to find a donor to supply a new garden hose and reel. Many thanks to Hoselink who provided a 30 metre retractable hose with reel. It has been all set up and it now helps the watering of all the garden beds.

And . . the garden had some very special little visitors during the final week of school, before the summer break. The Almost French Kindergarten turned a garden visit into a learning experience as the children heard more about the garden, watched the harvst of some potatoes and then helped position some colourful signage around the garden, depicting the names of the various plants. It was a fun morning for all.

THANK YOU TO THE FABULOUS TEAM AT STREETSMART

Over the past few years, SJOS has been a recipient of the work done by StreetSmart Australia, whose byline is Action Against Homelessness. They are an organization who fundraise to support grass roots community groups to actively engage in projects to tackle homelessness. Now, we have some new sheets and towels for the residents in the SJOS Transitional Housing Units and a special grant to provide toiletries and hygiene products in the SJOS Food Store. Thank you!

CHRISTMAS GIFT GIVING OPPORTUNITY:

SJOS Christmas Gift Giving Cards are valued at $30.00, $50.00 and $100.00. They provide the opportunity to give a card, detailing a donation to SJOS, in lieu of a gift. For an SJOS gift for Christmas, please contact [email protected].
